Giving Options

There are many ways to support the work of Hospice of Southern Maine. You can make one-time, monthly, and memorial gifts online or by check. You can also make tax-wise gifts from stocks, donor advised funds, and IRA distributions. We also would love to talk with you about making an impact beyond your lifetime with a gift in your will or by naming Hospice of Southern Maine as a beneficiary of life insurance or financial accounts. Obituary and Memorial Giving

We're often asked how to let family and friends know in an obituary that memorial gifts can be made to Hospice of Southern Maine. We suggest the following language, but if you'd like some help creating your own wording, please contact us.

Please consider making a memorial donation to Hospice of Southern Maine at 390 US Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074, or online at www.hospiceofsouthernmaine.org/donate.

We send a donation receipt to each person who donates to us, and we also acknowledge their generosity to the family of the individual for whom it is in memory, providing the name and address of the donor.

If you are interested in having Hospice of Southern Maine donation envelopes at a funeral service, please call (207) 289-3640 or send us an email letting us know how many you'd like and where to send them and we'll take care of it for you.

Additional Ways of Giving

  • Supporters at the major gift level of $1,000 or higher are recognized as Circle of Caring members and receive special opportunities and invitations throughout the year.

  • Adding a brick to the Trail of Memories patio is a wonderful way to remember a loved one while supporting end-of-life care at Hospice of Southern Maine. Bricks are engraved locally in Maine with the text of your choice. Your brick will be added to the patio, bordered by the lovely gardens, at Hospice of Southern Maine’s Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

  • Giving stock to Hospice of Southern Maine is a beneficial way to donate from a tax standpoint, and it is a simple way to support our programs. Thank you for considering such a gift. Stock gifts may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine through LPL Financial at Kennebunk Investment Services. Detailed instructions for making the stock transfer are below. Since we do not receive the name of stock donors at the time of transfer, please call or email us so we can thank you appropriately.

    Steps for Donation:

    1. Contact your advisor/broker. Let your broker know your intention to transfer stock, including the number of shares or dollar amount of the contribution.

    2. Provide the broker with the following instructions, and ask them to contact us to let us know it is coming.

  • If you would like to learn more about leaving a gift to HSM in a will, trust, or by beneficiary designation, please see this Planned Giving flyer.   • Our Endowment Fund provides financial stability and funding for long-term needs. Endowed assets are invested, and in this way grow to provide support in perpetuity. Gifts restricted to the Endowment Fund are welcomed, and make a tremendous impact in securing our future caring for generations to come.

  • Hospice of Southern Maine is often asked by family and friends of patients and other members of our community, "What can help with?" The generosity behind the question is moving. As a nonprofit, we do have needs. While care at Hospice of Southern Maine is reimbursed by Medicare, MaineCare and other insurances, we rely on the generous support of our community to support the “extra” things we do, from grief support to the quilts in every room at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, to our volunteer program. If you would like to know how you can help, please browse through the Wish List below.
