Grief and Bereavement Support
Hospice of Southern Maine offers an evening drop-in Bereavement Support Group for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to share with a skilled group facilitator and other group participants. This group is intended for people who experienced the death of a loved one more than 6 months ago, but support group sessions for the newly bereaved are also offered.
The evening drop-in group meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and will be facilitated by Carol Schoneberg, the manager of the bereavement program at Hospice of Southern Maine. The group will help individuals deal with feelings of sadness, grief, depression and anger, as well as other issues of self-growth. These nondenominational meetings are held at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church at 350 U.S. Route One in Scarborough, Maine. All our bereavement offerings are free of charge.
A group for the newly bereaved will meet every Tuesday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church at 350 U.S. Route One in Scarborough, Maine. The group will be facilitated by Katharina Hartman, an experienced bereavement support group facilitator. This support group will help individuals deal with feelings of sadness, grief, depression and anger, as well as other issues of self-growth. Not a therapy group, this group will provide a safe, caring and trusting environment where individuals can share their experiences of grief and loss. The next session starts July 28 and will run through September 15. Participants are encouraged to attend every session.
