Planned giving is something that requires more planning, negotiation
and counsel than a regular gift. Still this kind of giving is greatly appreciated by the Hospice of Southern Maine and also
allows for the donor of the gift to advance their own financial and personal goals. There are many different ways in which
gifts can be planned out
Bequests: This is one of the more popular types of planned gifts. Anything you leave to a charitable organization
reduces the size of your taxable estate, while helping out a good cause like the Hospice of Southern Maine. A bequest may
be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of an estate or a specific asset. No matter what the size of your estate is, a bequest
can be made. The entire value of a bequest is eligible for an estate tax charitable deduction. If at anytime you’d like
to make a bequest to the Hospice of Southern Maine, contact us so both the donor and Hospice may realize its full benefit
and recognize you appropriately.
Life Insurance: When a life insurance policy you have is no longer needed, it can easily
become a significant gift for the Hospice of Southern Maine. Upon the death of the insured, Hospice of Southern Maine will
receive the face amount of the policy.
Beneficiary Designations: You may add The Hospice of Southern Maine as a revocable beneficiary
of your qualified IRA, pension plan, bank account or insurance policy.
Securities: You may choose to donate securities (stocks, bonds, etc.). Generally you can deduct the fair market value
of the gift and avoid capital gains tax liability.
As a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, donations to Hospice
of Southern Maine are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. Please consult with a tax attorney or an accountant
in order to determine the benefits of your donation to Hospice of Southern Maine.
