What Hospice Is and Isn't

Hospice is quality, compassionate care for patients dealing with a life-limiting illness. The principal goals of hospice are enhancing the value of life by controlling pain and any other physical symptoms, maintaining patients' dignity and respecting their wishes and providing emotional and spiritual support. It is a family-centered approach that includes a team of doctors, nurses, social workers, counselors, and trained volunteers. Hospice care is available to anyone with a prognosis of a terminal illness with a life expectancy of six months or less. Once a patient is in the hospice program, our team of professionals work with the patient and family in the setting of the patient's choice (whether in a private home, nursing home, assisted living facility, hospital or the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House) to meet their unique individual needs.
