Direct Service Hospice Volunteer Training

Hospice volunteers are valued members of the hospice interdisciplinary team and are considered the heart of hospice care. Hospice of Southern Maine offeres a 40-hour comprehensive training course, taking place on four Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., two Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, and one Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Tranings are offered in the spring, summer and fall, with class size limited to 14 participants. Certified volunteers are asked to make a commitment to providing 4 hours/week of non-medical aid and support to patients and their families. Opportunities include the possibility of providing care in patient's homes and/or the Gosnell Memorial Hospice house, as well as on-going support and continuing education offerings.

Office Volunteers

Hospice of Southern Maine provides opportunities for non-direct service volunteers, including office support, serving on the Board of Directors and fundraising activities.
